ABOUT
Friends of Stockwood Open Spaces was formed in 2009 to help protect and improve the public open spaces of Stockwood, Bristol. Entering "BS14" on Google Maps will find us. There's the 'Open Space' itself - the protected hillside and meadows that stretch down to Brislington. We have, too, the hillside and the playing fields between upper and lower Stockwood; the 'Sturminster' valley with its tree-lined brook flowing north from the Saltwell Viaduct; and Whitchurch Way, the former railway path offering walkers and cyclists a green escape from the traffic on the main roads. Already, the Friends have carried out or shared in guided walks, habitat restoration, 'clean-ups' to help get rid of flytipped rubbish and litter. We work with the council and the Wildlife Trust on managing and improving the open spaces, and campaign to protect them from development. We publish occasional newsletters, and we're on the web at www.fosos.weebly.com Our big project now is to restore the old orchard - and enjoy its fruits! How to join We're a community organisation, depending entirely on support from local people, and new members are very welcome. To cover initial costs, we ask for £2 per person, which should be sent along with contact details (and preferably an email address) to Kerry Vosper at 10 Sturminster Close, Pete Goodwin at 11 Lanesborough Rise, or Margaret Short at 10 Townsend Close. |
